Description

A characterful fly sparkles as the centrepiece of this immensely wearable clip pendant. Originally an elegant stick pin from the Edwardian period this was originally designed to take pride of place in the lapel of a jacket. This intricate jewel is composed of a lustrous creamy-shaped pearl that perfectly portrays the body of this lively insect. Rose cut diamonds have been set into both wings, and rubies have been used to define the watchful eyes. Both the Victorians and the Edwardians were fascinated by insects and the natural world. Elaborate jewels were created in the forms of butterflies, moths, beetles, bees and flies to be worn and enjoyed. Expertly converted in the Pragnell workshops into a removable clip pendant this has been paired with an intricate French openwork link chain section (42cm) from the Belle Epoque period.
